T-29 days…Productive Weekend

So I didn’t do any packing, but nothing makes for a good send off like the brigade of midshipmen jumping in unison, waving their hats and chanting “I do believe we won.

Weekend Highlights :

We unintentionally booked a room in the official West Point hotel. Go us. Our midshipmen loved it when the arrived. They made up for it by chanting “The goat is old and gnarly…” in the hotel restaurant.

Night out in the same neighborhood as our hotel wearing “Fear the goat buttons.” I offer an extra to a random woman in the bathroom of Fado who says “Absolutely, it’ll piss off everyone I’m with.”

9:15am Saturday morning: “Boys you have 1/2 hour to be at the stadium in uniform.” “I think I’m dead.”

10:15am Saturday morning: “Stop sleeping on the curb! You look like a hobo!”

We miss the march on. I wear pom-pom gloves on the train and hope that Terence finds the photo evidence embarrassing (thanks for the gift :) Then we opt to drink rum and coke in the parking lot with random tailgaters we don’t know.

SPIRIT SPOTS! Watch them all here.

Kick-off. No POTUS. Thumbs down Mr. Obama, thumbs down. BUT Sloan Gibson, our fearless USO leader, was there. Check it out here.

Despite wearing 2 pairs of socks, having foot warmers and wearing boots, my toes still freeze off. Spend some time walking like I have bricks at the ends of my legs instead of feet.

Plot to steal the cover of a certain West Point cadet foiled. “Can I take a picture with you, wearing your cover?” “UUhhhh, only if you promise not to run away with it.” “Run away with it? Who would have ever thought to do something like that.”

Introduce ourselves to Austrian cadets for the purpose of taking a picture.

Introduce ourselves to the Osprey pilots who did the flyover for the purpose of taking a picture.

Navy wins 17-3. Quarterback Ricky Dobbs for Navy set an NCAA single-season record. Army, army call the doctor…

End up having coffee, cider and cookies at the USNA Class of 1965 tailgate. Meet a USO volunteer who works at the BWI Airport Lounge :)

Drinks in McFadden’s with the USNA Class of 1989. “When are you guys getting married?” “Well sir I am moving to Kuwait to work for the USO soon.” “Oh, are you going to be a stripper.” “No sir, I will not be singing or dancing. I will be working in a center at Camp Virginia.”

Nap…until we get a call, “WE ARE AT A RAVE.” It was not a rave. It was a bar. Sorry guys, but good effort.

Farewell to Pedro! We will all miss him. I guess that means that Tyler is coming back from South America?

Pouring rain on Sunday, but its to Geno’s for Philly cheese steaks. 1 with, 1 without. Thankfully we stood in the cold so long the day before, we hardly noticed that it was also freezing as we stood outside to eat.

Back home to do 35 loads of laundry (still working on it this morning).
